Anniversary Gala -Tallinn Ballet School 75

Tallinn Ballet School celebrates 75th anniversary!

The homepage of Estonian National Opera says the following:

This year, Tallinn Ballet School celebrates the passing of 75 years since first opening its doors. In the period after World War II, between 1944 and 1951, the ballet company of the Estonia Theatre was led by Anna Ekston. Only 21 dancers had remained from the 35-member group. In order to replenish the company, a ballet studio and a children’s group were established in the theatre at the initiative of Ekston. On the basis of the latter, Estonia’s first public institution for ballet education was formed in 1946 – the Estonian National Choreography School (now the Tallinn Ballet School). This year will witness the graduation of the 59th class!

The first part of the evening features a dashing gala by the graduates and students of the Tallinn Ballet School.

The second part presents the short ballet “The Glass Menagerie” by Marina Kesler based on Tennessee Williams’ eponymous play performed by Tallinn Ballet School students and the soloists and dancers of the Estonian National Ballet. The protagonist of the ballet, Laura is a fragile and romantic personality who does not identify with the coarse and cruel reality. Therefore, she creates herself an illusory ideal world out of small glass animals.
