Georgia Toni Hyrkäs receives Estonian Ballet Union dancer award

Vanemuine ballet soloist Georgia Toni Hyrkäs was awarded the outstanding dancer scholarship of the Estonian Ballet Union, which was presented by the chairman of the board of the ballet union, Triinu Upkin, this evening in Small building of Vanemuine after the ballet "Rain in December".

Starting from 2018, the board of the Estonian Ballet Union awards an outstanding dancer scholarship to highlight the achievements of one talented and hardworking ballet dancer every year and to motivate them to strive even higher.

"The outstanding dancer scholarship of the Estonian Ballet Union is not a reward for a specific role(s), it is awarded to a dancer who has literally stood out in a positive way", explains Upkin. "But the dancer still mainly shines on the stage, and Georgia has recently given excellent performances as George Sandina in the ballet 'Rain in December', as the mother in the ballet 'Ash-White' and as Queen Mab in the ballet 'Romeo and Juliet'."

The board of the Estonian Ballet Union includes Triinu Upkin (chairman), Janika Suurmets, Age Oks, Lemme Saarma, Ketlin Oja, Maria Engel and Mehis Saaber. The outstanding dancer scholarship of the Estonian Ballet Union is targeted and intended for the scholar's professional development. Last year, Marcus Nilson, a junior soloist of the Estonian National Ballet, received a scholarship, Gus Upchurch (2022) and Raminta Rudžionyte-Jordan (2019) from the Vanemuise Ballet have previously been recognized with a scholarship.
