Cristiano Principato received the Ida Urbel scholarship for a talented choreographer
Estonian National Ballet soloist Cristiano Principato was awarded the Ida Urbel scholarship of the Estonian Ballet Union.
On December 18, after the "Nutcracker" performance, the head of the board of the Estonian Ballet Union, Triinu Upkin, presented the Ida Urbel scholarship to the talented choreographer Cristiano Principato. Principato is a soloist of the Estonian National Ballet of Italian origin, who as a choreographer and director has created longer and shorter works for the Estonian National Ballet, the International Summer Night Ballet Gala and several international projects. This season, the full-length family ballet "Cinderella"(Estonian Ballet Agency) directed by Principato is performed in various cities both in Estonia and abroad.
The Estonian Ballet Union awards a scholarship named after Ida Urbel every two years, the amount of the scholarship is 1000 euros and its purpose is to support the professional development of the laureate. The scholarship laureate is decided by the board of the ballet union. Jevgeni Grib (2018) and Marina Kesler (2021) have previously received the scholarship.
Ida Urbel (16.12.1900 - 4.10.1983) was a ballet master and choreographer, the founder of Vanemuine Ballet. The board of the Estonian Ballet Union has decided to recognize talented choreographers with a scholarship named after her since 2018.
